Architect

Position Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Architect with at least five years of experience to contribute to a heritage conservation initiative in Northern Areas. The role focuses on architectural documentation, heritage assessment, conservation planning, and community collaboration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, creative insight, and a deep interest in cultural heritage and traditional building practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct measured surveys, freehand sketches, and condition assessments of historic structures on site.

  • Prepare accurate AutoCAD drawings including plans, sections, elevations, and detailed condition maps.

  • Participate in photographic documentation, including DSLR and drone-based surveys.

  • Assist in the preparation of a strategic phased conservation plan, incorporating heritage principles, material compatibility, and risk mitigation.

  • Support report writing, data organization, and heritage analysis aligned with international conservation charters.

  • Develop graphic presentations, diagrams, and visual materials to communicate conservation strategies and spatial understanding.

  • Engage with local artisans and communities to document traditional techniques and materials.

  • Collaborate with the core technical team including structural and conservation specialists.

  • Contribute to the development of adaptive reuse strategies, design guidelines, and sustainability recommendations.


Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from a recognized institution.

  • Verifiable professional experience, with strong architectural documentation and design skills.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Strong abilities in freehand sketching, site note-taking, and architectural illustration.

  • Excellent photographic skills for documentation and condition mapping (knowledge of drone operation is an advantage).

  • Capable of producing well-structured technical and narrative reports.

  • Strong graphic communication skills for producing maps, diagrams, and illustrated documents.

  • Understanding of or willingness to learn heritage conservation principles and charters (e.g., Venice Charter, Burra Charter).

  • Ability to work in remote and high-altitude field conditions.

  • Collaborative and adaptive mindset, especially in cross-disciplinary and culturally diverse environments.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience with heritage, vernacular architecture, or cultural landscape projects.

  • Familiarity with traditional materials such as rubble stone, mud mortar, and timber construction.

  • Interest in capacity building, local craft revival, and sustainable conservation practices.

  • Fluency in English and or regional languages is a plus.
